It is a different take on the Madonna Whore dichotomy. We are are like Nuns and Children in that we given the asexual status. We can be someone’s sister or friend but not their lover. When we resist this asexual status and express ourselves as sexual beings we are get the slut status. We become sexy, but we are not the kind of girl you take home to meet your friends.
In the standard Madonna/Whore split, a woman can take on the asexual role of wife or mother. The fetishized groups choose between invisibility and sexual objectification. Wife, husband, girlfriend, boyfriend; these categories do not easily mix with our fetishized statuses.
